The Little Big Band Festival

The Moreland Community "Big Band Frequency" would headline the event along with other local Big Bands comprised of community members, students, teachers and professionals. This all ages event would encourage families to share, connect and engage in the joy of music and dance together. Julia Sandel in collaboration with other artists would compose a set of Big Band music especially for our little listeners. The day would encourage participation with professional dancers from "Latin Evolution" leading the floor. We would also debut new Big Band music written for the event by local composers with feature instruments including harmonica and didgeridoo.

Big Band music is something that can be enjoyed by everyone, with traditional swing music from the 1920s to jazz, blues, latin, funk and current pop music arranged for Big Band. This is also a chance to showcase new and exciting works by local composers wanting to bring the Big Band tradition into the modern day... including Big Band music for children! There are very few opportunities where children can experience a sound and spectacle like this with their family. Music brings people together, Big Band music brings generations together.
