The Incredible Years Parenting Program

The Incredible Years program is an evidence-based program that provides parents with comprehensive intervention skills and strategies targeted at preventing or reducing early onset challenges or developing conduct behaviors in young children. The program aims to reduce challenging behavior in children and increase their social emotional learning and self-control. Save the Children proposes to deliver three programs across the Latrobe region in partnership with three Primary Schools. The Incredible Years program is a structured therapeutic 12 week program delivered with the support of the school networks. Skilled facilitators help parents/carers to practice strategies that have positive and long term outcomes.

Parents/carers involved in the Incredible Years programs will have an improved ability to understand and respond to their children’s challenging behaviors resulting in increased confidence and skills for parents/carers and a reduction of behavioral problems and anti-social behavior displayed in their children. This results in improved family relationships and functioning, and more positive long term social and learning outcomes for children including strengthening children’s social skills, emotional regulation and school readiness skills. Ultimately the Incredible Years program is to prevent and reduce the occurrence of aggressive and oppositional behaviors reducing the chance of developing later anti-social behaviors in their community.
