An old bowling green is being transformed into a community market garden to grow food intensively for our local community. We propose the development of a family friendly food hub in association with Fawkner Food Bowls and 3000 Acres. It will activate a meeting place for growing, cooking and sharing food through regular workshops and events. We'll link the community of backyard food growers with new residents in skill-sharing initiatives and opportunities to build community. We hope to host a fortnightly market with affordable fresh produce from the garden and offer free veggie boxes to those who volunteer.

The Hothouse will be a community meeting place and fertile ground for learning. The universal theme of food is perfect for our diverse and truly multicultural community. Food is a connector that brings generations and cultures together. 51% of Fawkner residents have fruit or vegetables growing in their gardens but we have the highest food insecurity in Moreland. A food hub allows us to build community cohesion and connections as well as future resilience through a lively community garden, veggie market, food relief programs, seed saving and sharing, a kitchen equipment library, cooking and nutrition programs, bulk foods and more.

What a much needed community project for Fawkner...already met some lovely people here and I look forward to feeding the worms more veggie scraps and playing with my toddler and other bubs in the sand pits! Let's hope we get the grant and help FFB flourish.

Fantastic work Kelly & all the FFB crew! How cool would it be for the garden to have a full-time farmer/teacher on site? Growing food, passing on knowledge, connecting and feeding people. Hot house is a great start!

this is a fantastic project. it connects the long standing residents with the new and also brings benefit to the bowls club via collaboration. I am new-ish to Fawkner and just love that there are projects such as this to get involved in. :)

We have already met so many lovely locals through this project. The grant is a fantastic chance to welcome even more residents who'd like to socialise in a welcoming space.
