My project is to establish an open collaborative makerspace to encourage adventurous creating, making, tinkering and learning. Possibilities include cosplay, wearable technology, robotics, textile projects, fabrication, art and craft, tinkering and construction projects.

The Knox Innovation Opportunity and Sustainability Centre (KIOSC) on Swinburne’s Wantirna campus will provide meeting space and access to tools, technology and equipment for creating and making. KIOSC will have open doors three times a week to accommodate a Girls’ Garage, Men’s Shed and general community makerspace. The project would culminate in a community Maker Day late in 2019 to showcase and celebrate collaboration, inspiration and achievement.

People have many grand ideas for innovative designs at the moment, but not always a place to undertake it. Anyone in the community who would like explore innovative projects, learn new skills and share ideas will be welcomed to the maker groups at KIOSC. Women and girls are encouraged to explore ideas and skills on a Girl's Garage night. Men will have a supportive Men's Shed and Saturdays will be open for all. Mentors will be on site to help develop skills, encourage innovations and assist projects. The year will end in a grand Maker Faire, celebrating achievements.

What a great opportunity to engage the community in science education, both building the community and our future.
