Located at the much-loved CERES Community Environment Park - The Recycled, Electric, Kinetic Playground is constructed from "industrial junk" - cranes, planes and tractor wheels - repurposed into climbing frames, tunnels, swings and slides that not only challenge and delight but also generate electricity when played upon. Based on the "ultimate urban playground " at the St Louis City Museum, this open to the public playground is not just a place to engage children's imaginations and bodies it's a community-built facility allowing adults to play - sharing and learning skills such as group-work, playground design, salvage, welding and construction.

In our screen addicted, built-up neighbourhoods we need places that get our kids off their X-boxes and into the world.

We also need meaningful activities for adults to meet others, learn skills and create something to be proud of.

The CERES Recycled, Electric, Kinetic Playground;

- gets kids' bodies and imaginations firing
- teaches and inspires creative recycling
- provides opportunities to volunteer, share knowledge & skills
- teaches group-work & builds community cohesion
- reduces parents' social isolation
- reuses "industrial junk" in a highly productive way
- and generates the world's most playful and sustainable source of electricity!

What a great project - i love it. Kids should play at climbing and building, as the spirit takes them, just as we were able to at their age!

It’s more important than ever to provide opportunities for kids to meaningfully engage outside of their virtual worlds, and the creativity of this project sounds like the perfect solution!

What a wonderful project! It is creative and engaging and will foster children's learning while they play. The CERES play area is great fun for young children but older siblings are left out. This will certainly fill that gap!

Would be a fabulous resource not just locally but for all school groups who regularly visit during the week and families at the weekend.
