The idea for Tempo Rubato – a backstreet classical music venue – arose from a series of fundraising recitals run by Piano Project, a charity which sponsors piano lessons for children who are new immigrants to Australia (www.pianoproject.org.au). Last year we secured a warehouse shell in Brunswick and began the process of converting the old factory into a space suitable for acoustic music performance. We have completed all the rudimentary work ourselves. We now need funding to carry out the renovations that will enable us to open the doors.
Every community is enriched by its culture. At Tempo Rubato, local community members will experience classical music in an environment that is both unusual and accessible. In their own backyard, audiences will be able to enjoy intimate performances by local and international musicians. Proceeds from Tempo Rubato will be donated to Piano Project, creating a sustainable model to continue to fund piano lessons for immigrant children. Tempo Rubato will enrich Melbourne’s reputation as a city of music, with a unique offering that benefits local community, local musicians, and supports some of our most vulnerable children.

Cheering for this project!!
There's no doubt that music can change lives & build communities. I love this project.
Great idea. The world needs more of this kind of thing and these kind of people!
Nothing like music to soothe the battered psyche and I can't think of any group more deserving of this than our refugee kids. Brilliant project deserving of our full support.
What a great project. Good luck and fingers crossed. I'm a local violin teacher and will send out the word to my students and families to vote. Perhaps we can even collaborate in the future? Here's to more kids learning music.
All the best.
Claire
