“Turtle Bend” is the focal point of Teesdale’s community life. Residents have created a unique “turtle” pavilion, with copper roof, mosaic floor and musical turtle, where we hold festivals, carols and markets. The area also supports our skate/BMX park, bbqs and walking tracks. However, the access footbridge, visible from Main Rd, which links the Bend with the playground and paths to the shop and school, is run-down, narrow and unsafe. We wish to widen the bridge to improve access for all, including disabled, prams and bikes, with striking design/musical elements that reflect environmental and Indigenous heritage and culture.

Teesdale is a small rural town with one outdoor gathering place: Turtle Bend. The pedestrian bridge is the gateway to this precinct. The Bend's 10-year-old Turtle Pavilion celebrates the local habitat (long-necked turtle) and Indigenous history, and has transformed Turtle Bend into a place of cultural/social events and community pride. Widening the bridge to match the aesthetics of the Pavilion will further encourage involvement, physical activity, improve disability access, engage locals and visitors in our unique "place" and enhance locals' sense of connection. It will cohesively and inclusively solidify the Bend's role as the social/cultural heart of our community.
