This program will invite teenagers in the community to learn how to code. Teenagers will be introduced to coding skills in an easy program designed for beginners, as well as more complex skills such as algorithm design and problem solving on a larger scale. Teenagers will be guided and mentored in the Python programming language by homegrown programmers, including gold medallists in international programming competitions. There will be regular mini-competitions to create a fun environment for learning, and teenagers will work towards preparing to participate in national programming competitions.
Algorithms and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are likely to play a significant role in defining the future, and basic skills in computing may prove to be crucial to success in the digital future. Not all teenagers across Victoria have the opportunity to learn to code, and by sharing the skills of experienced Australian programmers, this program will enable teenagers to obtain an understanding of this vital life skill.
