The festival will be a community event in Wyndham that aims to share and celebrate cultural hot drinks. It will put on a display of a variety of tea/ coffee and perihelia (e.g. Kashmiri, Ethiopian and Japanese tea and coffee, international tea sets). Stalls will be accompanied by speeches from experts in intercultural engagement and tea/coffee enthusiasts, musical performances complementary to the cultures at the event. Attendees can participate in activities and win prizes.
It will be planned/developed by two young people - hired and mentored by five adults; allowing them to gain meaningful project/event skills.
Tea and Coffee is used here as an analogy for intercultural engagement. The festival will demonstrate that we are from different parts of the world, but hot drinks can bring us together. All cultures have hot drinks (everyone has culture), but we prepare, serve and drink them in different ways (we all express our culture differently). It allows us to experience the core values that bring us together.
To create a strong community there needs to be a shared understanding and feeling for the term community. A community of tea and coffee drinkers who just do it differently.
