A lot of our elderly in nursing homes are feeling cut-off from the world and left-out by their families, relatives and friends, often leading to mental and emotional deterioration. The use of technology and social media should help the elderly get connected to the world and to their families, relatives and friends.
The cost of a gadget, i.e., ipad, computers, etc. and lack of access to trainings are barriers. The #te(a)chme project will recruit, train and deploy people to teach elders how to use the gadget, connect to the internet and engage in social media.

The direct beneficiaries are the elderly in helping them reduce their feeling of loneliness, isolation, improving their health and well-being. The trainers, especially young people will gain skills, education and a deeper understanding and appreciation on providing service to elders. It will be a good training ground for people, especially the jobless, to gain access to possible future career prospects in age care and community service. In a bigger picture, the local community benefits is greater social interaction. It will also foster awareness and build good relationships.

Being part of the regional Returned Service community, so often it is said by our mature age members, can you post it out as I don't know how to use a computer. In todays fast paced world, the elderly loose touch because a majority of companies only operate through electronic media.
This would benefit in two ways; keep the mind active and increase social connection.

I think this is a win win not only for the elderly staying connected but for the young educators/trainers experience working with older generations.

This is a must as my husband is becoming very isolated due to his health.
