The ENTERPRIZE TALL SHIP is a replica of the ship used in the Pascoe Fawkner led expedition to establish the first European settlement on the banks of the Yarra on 30th August 1835. As such this project is of great significance to not only the local but to the wider community since it represents the beginnings of European development here and an opportunity to address the impact it had on the indigenous tribes

This project will provide:
Free sailing opportunities for the Hobsons Bay community in the traditionally rigged
tall ship Enterprize. With up to 30% of Williamstown sailing days reserved for the local community to experience what sailing was like in the 1830s;
A series of public educational presentations about the early establishment of Williamstown and the role of the original Enterprize in the founding of Melbourne;
Opportunities for twelve local organisations to use the Enterprize for their own initiatives in support of the local community;
Promotional opportunities for local tourism activity through the Enterprize visits and presentations.
Benefits to the local community are:
Individual members of the community having the opportunity of a free sail in a traditionally built and rigged tall ship;
Local not-for-profit and charitable organisations having use of the ship for their own community focused initiatives;
Attracting tourism to the local economy to see and sail in the only ship in the southern hemisphere still using the traditional materials of hemp rope, flax sails, Stockholm tar and tallow;
Providing a better understanding of our place in the history of the development of Melbourne and the traditional maritime arts and culture of the 1830s

Something about the sea always draws us, The Enterprize lets us remember our local history and so much about the lives of sailors.
THE ENTERPRIZE is part of our local heritage . 1834 The beginning of the capital of Australia if not for the lack of fresh water that led John Batman up the Yarra to Melbourne.
This sounds like a great project to experience
An outstanding community engagement event. Great for tourism, school groups or corporate groups. Uniquely significant to our heritage also.
Sometimes you have to look back to be able to move forward.
Great opportunity for the future youth to learn the ropes.
A tangible and exciting way to discover early european forms of transport. Would you have sailed from Europe on such a craft?
What a great opportunity to sail on a tall ship in the local community
This experience is simply Life Changing !
Best thing in Melbourne
