Engagement in role-playing games has been demonstrated to improve mental health and reduce social-isolation. Though this project, 200 table-top role-playing sessions and 12 events, inlcuding miniature figure painting, will be run at The Dock Library over the course of a year, and will develop and grow a community-network that will continue beyond the life of the project itself. Targeted advertising at agencies and organisations that assist with mental health issues within the community will attract participants who will benefit the most from the project.
This project will develop a community-based support network and reach out to those in need of social support. Case studies have demonstrated that participation in table-top role-playing can lead to improvements in both mental health issues and social behaviour, and there are numerous role-playing-based therapy group workshops already established throughout the world. Specific demonstrated benefits include developing coping mechanisms, empathy, tolerance, ethical behaviour, learning to compromise, improved self-confidence and social skills, as well as developing creative thinking skills.
