The six month trial will feature: initial community driven project design workshop; fortnightly sustainable community workshops series (reduce; reuse; recycle); ‘Unplastic kits’ for residents available through local shops (recycled reusable everyday items/informative brochures with links to online resources, and apps); ‘Unplastic kits’ tailored for businesses (waste audit/informative brochures with links to online resources and apps, plastic-free alternatives samples); 'Unplastic posters' showing joint support and highlighting further individual business actions; social media pages highlighting residents’ actions and feedback; inspire and support other surrounding communities (West Footscray, Kingsville and more); project evaluation for future project developments.

The project will: strengthen our communities by allowing the cross-over of audiences and demographics, whilst addressing the frustrating and disparaging issues of plastic pollution and recycling. Increase communication and initiatives between businesses, residents and council by creating an informative and accessible platform for evaluating sustainable solutions. Establish a cross-cultural and cross-generational bond by mixing traditions with new technologies. Set up a sustainable initiative that may be extended and replicated across suburbs and councils. Being a joint initiative, ‘Sustainaville’ will avoid doubling up on resources and people, cutting costs and work in-half.

A great initiative that will teach us how to minimise/eliminate plastic items from everyday use and find alternatives.
