Constructed on the newly landscaped grounds of SNH the Welcome Community Art Park incorporates artist designed sculptures and community designed and built accessible, playful, climbable 3D works.
A comprehensive project brief will direct this collaborative project to welcome locals and visitors, provide an engaging outdoor environment reflecting local history and the histories of newer residents.
Comprising 3 artist-made installations and numbers of built forms, local community groups will attach smaller art works, consistent with the thematic brief, including tiles, mosaics and painted images. There will be a sensory element throughout, to enable people with visual impairment optimum enjoyment and participation.

Tactile, visual, climbable, sensory, safe and accessible, the Welcome Community Art Park will celebrate and engage all ages and abilities, sharing stories/histories and working together.
Currently the landscaped space is stark, inaccessible and says ’keep off’. This park invites participation and engagement during and post construction.
Community artists will include local schools, asylum seekers, refugees, older people, people with disabilities, Indigenous people, volunteers, families and local residents.
Pictorial representation of the original SNH mural to be included, potentially applied as vinyl or tile forms to pre-formed structures.
Creative strategies during consultation and design will gather community stories and experiences.

Looks phenomenal !! ... I see awesome potential in getting people from this project (and the community therein) and mingling it with our project? Who knows? It could be a goer? While it's a commendable idea to improve a much neglected space, community made art projects often run the risk of looking cheap, aesthetically displeasing and dated (mosaics have their place in Roman times when they were made by master craftspeople but can look very tacky as community projects. Consider, for example, the mosaic exterior of the East Coburg Community House which they are now getting rid of). With no actual plans or drawing to judge, how would one know what they are voting for. My preference would be for a striking landscaped garden (like the children's garden at the Botanical Gardens) with a small children's play area/bbq table or even some exercise installations (chin up bars, etc). This kind of thing could be maintained by local gardening groups, local schools and even local aged-care homes and the Pascoe Vale RSL as collaborative community development projects. Considering it is a war memorial reserve, a theme fitting in with a peaceful and harmonious landscaped botanical garden would be more timeless. That's my two bob's anyway and I don't mean to be a naysayer.
