The Quay Residents Association wish to activate and redevelop Nautical Rise Linear Reserve, a local park in Torquay's Quay Estate. A lot of preplanning has taken place in conjunction with Surf Coast Shire Council officers to put together a unique design for this sustainable community project. This underutilised park is perfectly positioned to become a sustainable community hub/meeting place and the site's repurpose as an indigenous edible garden is creating a buzz in the community. The design principle for this indigenous ‘pick and eat’ garden is planting a variety of edible plants that become prolific across different seasons.

This indigenous edible garden project aims to reconnect community to an underutilised park and to provide a unique opportunity for community to be involved in the planning and creation of a sustainable edible garden. This project is unique in its focus on indigenous culinary plants that can be incorporated easily into everyday family dishes. Engagement with the Wadawurrung community in the planning stages of this project may extend to ongoing involvement and learning as the site evolves. Involvement of local schools with planning, plant propagation and planting is also a key objective of the project.

This would be wonderful. It's an under utilised area that is quite drab. Definitely needs some attention

Aboriginal culture should be taught in all school and we need to look after our environment and wildlife, so this would be a fantastic way for people to learn about our beautiful flora.

Sounds like a wonderful project! Looking forward to trying some of the indigenous foods. Many thanks to collaborators including Wadawurrung people.
