Disc Golf is a growing sport that is played casually and professionally around the world with over 6,000 courses in the USA and Scandinavia. Australia has around 60. The Maribyrnong Council backed a trial course at Stony Creek Reserve, Yarraville (installed August, 2017) and we are now seeking funds to expand the course to it's full potential. This would include growing the course from 4 holes to 9, permanent/durable signage, concrete tee pads and strategic tree planting. These additions will make the course more enjoyable, easier to navigate and safer for all.
Disc Golf is incredibly inclusive as it allows all ages and abilities to participate together. It is an inexpensive sport (a disc is $15) that is easy to learn. 9 holes take roughly 30mins, which gets people outdoors and active, and the sport teaches responsibility towards the environment and other park users. Stony Creek Reserve is under-utilised and a well designed course would attract more users. Disc Golfers act as passive surveillance against antisocial behaviour and illegal dumping. The sport is fun and can played socially with friends or meditatively by yourself, improving mental and physical health.

The 4basket trial course at stony creek has been a great success and expanding the course will result in more use of the area, as well as encourage new players to join the sport.

Stony Creek Reserve is such a great and underused area. The Disc Golf course is a fantastic addition to the reserve and its expansion will help bring even more new people into the area.

I love Stony Creek- that park is wonderful - a real hidden gem. Having Disc Frisbee game there is great- its so much fun!

Disc Golf is the perfect way to engage the community to use an under-utilised open space. It’s the perfect sport as it is accessible to a large percentage of the community without demanding exclusive use of the park.
