Steiglitz is a township within Steiglitz Historic Park, surrounded by bush land. There is no water, electricity or sewerage connected. Each summer sees Steiglitz at risk from bush fire. The only large volume of water for fire fighting is a single town dam. However, the water catchment systems and the dam are in dire need of repair. Necessary works include:
1. Uncovering & repairing existing listed stone-lined gutters.
2. Reshaping road camber to direct rainwater into stone gutters.
3. Removal of silt build up from existing water channeling contours.
4. Eradicating introduced reed infestation and removing silt from town dam.
Our community needs a large, reliable water supply. As we rely on rainwater only, maintaining all avenues of water catchment for the town dam is vital. Not only for saving the heritage listed town buildings from bush-fire but also for increasing the safety of those fire fighters who would be called on to save our town. Living in such a dry environment, both locals & visitors revel in all a full dam offers during the heat of a bush Summer. Whilst uncovering the beautiful 1850s built stone gutters would also add greatly to the visitor's experience

The Steiglitz town dam is an essential resource in this historic community. Steiglitz is a unique community - offgrid - with no access to mains water and power. This gives residents and visitors a very special way of life, and one that could be educative for the wider community. The dam has become degraded in recent years, and certainly could be a life-saver if a fire should endanger the town and the surrounding beautiful bushland.
