'STARTLING'- a community visual art project by artist Brett Ashby

Additional support is being sought for the Community Arts Project titled 'Startling', currently facilitated by the Bass Coast Shire Council. Artist, Brett Ashby has been awarded a Community Arts Grant for his proposed public artwork. Ashby is looking for further funds to achieve the proposed outcome for this site; mixed media mounted composite panel, front facade, community designed artwork. The additional funding would support a larger final artwork, approximately 6m x 3m or even two final artworks. The art would conclude redevelopment works on the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre and help lift the appearance of the front.

The artwork will bring vibrance and colour to a central location in Wonthaggi. The development of the artwork will offer community arts workshops for students and professional development for staff. Skills and outcomes covered will be: Research development; Concept development; Designs for the external artwork; Student painted elements; Selection of artwork colours to match the local area; Collection of photographs; Exchange of photographs through community newsletter; Photoshop workshops; Creation of stencil design and art shapes; Community youth and adult participation; Health and wellness properties when visiting the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre (visual art therapy).
