St Kilda Park Primary School Orchestra

All students will be welcome at the weekly rehearsals of the St Kilda Park Primary Orchestra, regardless of musical experience, and the conductor will provide music to suit the abilities of all. Local children whose school may not have an orchestra will also be welcome. The orchestra will perform (sometimes with school choir) at school events ( eg assemblies, fete and concerts) and in the community eg at local nursing homes, local schools festivals/concerts (eg Bay St Festival of the Bands, Local Schools Annual Concert), and also at the Boroondara Eisteddfod. Pieces with indigenous language content will be included.

Playing music together can help all aspects of learning, build confidence, ignite creativity and encourage cooperation and teamwork. For some children it can be the beginning of feeling they can do something special. For the school community, the orchestra can provide highly-valued artistic contributions to school events, taking them to another level. And school parents can deepen their connection to school and each other by helping. For the local community, the visits to nursing homes delight the residents while also educating the children about community values and outreach. And at local community events, the mutual inspiration between groups is incalculable.
