This one-stop-shop information hub will be located in Victoria's oldest standing primary school building (1856) that urgently requires structural restoration to ensure its integrity and future use. Following structural restoration, this iconic building will showcase and facilitate climate change adaptation through landscape restoration practices, providing personal advice from professional practitioners housed in the Hub (LandCare Facilitator - Southwest Environmental Alliance, & Greening Australia) .
The facility will also highlight agricultural techniques to mitigate carbon emissions on farms.
Likewise, static displays and printed information (brochures etc) will provide information on retrofitting houses and urban streetscapes for energy conservation and improved lifestyles.

The South West Enviro Hub will increase participation in a range of climate change adaptations, thus improving environmental outcomes ranging from the natural landscape and biodiversity, long-term soil enhancement and productivity in a time of global warming. Make it easier for people to access personalised assistance to improving their environment - be it in rural or urban environs.
Further, relevant and current information on retrofitting older houses and designing new energy efficient ones to reduce community-scale, energy footprints and costs will be available. The hub will also house a training room for community presentations, forums, dialogue and community planning etc.

This project is an inspired concept which artfully plays to important strengths of Portland and builds upon them.
This initially is achieved through the choice of a venue which is part of Portland’s rich past and ensures it is preservation as it one of the state’s most historic educational buildings.
This is further supported by the worthiness of the objective of enriching an understanding of the interconnected reliance between human activity and our natural world; in a local community setting, benefitted by the striking environmental backdrop of our region.
Finally, the soundness of the project is supported further by the loftiness of the guiding principle of promoting a reassuring alignment between our actions and the needs of future generations. . Something not lost on the original inhabitants who occupied the land and thrived in this very area for thousands of years.

Great project as a base for community based land conservation while preserving and maintaining an important iconic bluestone building as part of the history of Portland.

A welcome project. The project will be the 'go to place' for householders in South West Victoria to learn how to enjoy a sustainable lifestyle, whether their setting be in town or out in the countryside. Seeing 'green' technologies retrofitted into a historic old building will make the possibilities available to all of us very tangible.
