Banyule Clean Energy Group, a community group, will organise installation of solar panels for IDV who are a leading Banyule Disability Service Provider (established in 1954), catering for adults with intellectual disabilities. The project will reduce energy bills for IDV by more than 50% annually which will save them at least $10,000 per year. This will also contribute to Banyule Clean Energy Group's goal of reducing carbon emissions in Banyule by 50% by 2023.
The project will benefit the community in a number of ways. Firstly installation of solar panels will reduce energy bills which will provide additional funds for IDV to boost programs and services they provide for adults with intellectual disabilities. IDV are very excited about this project. Secondly this will provide a model for other Banyule service organisations and industries to install solar panels and significantly reduce costs and carbon emissions. Thirdly it will address the climate change emergency and contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions in Banyule. Lastly we will engage the community across Banyule in renewable energy projects.
