I am a resident of the Collingwood housing estate and I want to start a campaign for solar powered public housing across Victoria, starting with my home on the Collingwood estate. This is a great opportunity for council to invest in renewable energy as well as supporting low income housing residents.
My idea includes putting on a solar-powered concert on at the estate to raise awareness and educate my community. My vision is for public housing properties to be alternative energy providers of the future.

This project offers a concrete example about what we can do as residents to tackle climate change, as part of a broader campaign for renewable energy uptake in public housing.
We aim to contribute to the national debate, to encourage a more long-term and broader investment into green public housing.

Climate change actions are often directed at a middle- to higher-income demographic. We want to demonstrate that lower-income communities can contribute to a cleaner and greener society.
Solar estate is not just a futuristic vision with your help.

What a wonderful idea! Why should people with less be unable to make a difference and save money?

This is a fantastic idea - why aren't we already doing this?? Would be a great opportunity to pilot something that if successful could be rolled out across the state....!

I agree.
I am a public housing tenant in a duplex house and my neighbors and I would be the perfect place for solar power.

Brilliant idea - renewable energy projects need to be brought to everyone, not just property owners, and public housing tenants are often those in the economic bracket that feels the stress of mounting energy costs so accutely

So often public housing tenants get overlooked for sustainability projects, because government providers assume it’s just too hard: yhink waste minimisation through recycling or solar panels to cut energy costs. It’s time to integrate climate change mitigation right across public, community and private sector tenancies. There are gains to be made for all!

This is the project for my area, it is something for the future, to help with climate change, building community and making a transition to a clean green energy future.
