The Sports, Math and Scientific Hypothesis (SMASH) Contest is an initiative to increase the awareness of children, from Kindergarten through to year 8, of the importance and relevance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects. This connection is achieved by challenging children to use art to express a relationship between any sport and any related scientific, technical, engineering or mathematical principle. It is reinforced for the winners by providing the opportunity to have their achievements recognised and celebrated by real heroes, in front of their family, friends and teachers.

The SMASH Contest provides students the opportunity to be inspired. The profound impact that an inspirational moment can have on us is something we all understand and with luck have experienced. The key to the success of the SMASH Contest is that we recognise one inspirational moment can shape the pursuit of a life-long dream. SMASH aims to provide the chance for a young mind to experience that inspirational moment, and create a lasting impression that “STEM is important and cool.” The awards are presented by real heroes: World-class scientists, Sports stars, Astronauts, and Members of Congress.
