The Hills are alive when there's music and song. To have our own massed choir (a la Boite) right here would be perfect! Where do I put my name down?

Led by Musical Director of merit Kate Sadler, each choir and singer will learn a new collection of songs with the aim of bringing all voices into one massed Choir. Supported by recorded parts and music, choir leaders engage with Kate to support them to teach choirs separately. All come together for a short series of massed rehearsals leading up to a final concert. Similar to the Boite Millennium Chorus, this will reflect the Hills and Dales unique character in choice of songs and willingness to participate in a joint creative venture.
This project will welcome all local people regardless of ability, mobility, age, culture, gender, mental health status, income or singing experience. Singing raises endorphins, regulates blood pressure and lung capacity but also has many benefits for mental and emotional wellbeing. Group singing can help people connect with others, give a sense of contribution to a larger project, raise self esteem, give purpose and challenge in a safe, supported environment. We are closely allied with Community Music Victoria, Dandenong Ranges Music Council, Sing Yarra Ranges network, Burrinja Cultural Centre and Tecoma Uniting Church and will receive support from each.

Barb McFarlane is an amazing teacher and sensitive holder of groups so that we learn to sing meaningful songs in harmony. She is the mother of Song I can sing not highly enough of her capacities. !
