Tilly Aston, born in Carisbrook in 1873 is the 'seed' that started what is now known as Vision Australia. Tilly is a source of pride for our small community, and honoured by Vision Australia. Tilly Aston was a trailblazer who fought for voting rights for those with visual impairment and blindness. The Tilly Aston Memorial Centre was built to honour her and bring pride to our community. The Memorial Centre attracts local and out of town visitors, as well as Vision members and those with special abilities. We have a seating area, but a sun shade is vital.

Pride and self esteem are important factors in any community. Carisbrook's Tilly Aston Memorial Centre was built with this in mind. The design also features aspects so that those with special abilities can feel safe and gain knowledge of the achievements of Tilly Aston as well as the benefits of a sensory garden area, and specially made seating nearby. An audio has been installed in the structure and those who are unable to read the information boards can listen to Tilly's story, and even hear her voice. Involvement from local school, various clubs and Vision members. Pride - Community Unity.
