Please, please, please - we would appreciate a bit more shade! Looking forward to our nearly 8 month old turning 1 in January and what better place than to have his first party at our local pool - but we would love some more shaded areas for him to crawl around under when he's not in the water :)

It is my hope to transform Golden Square Pool into my suburb's beating heart, by making it a more welcoming, inviting and safe community hub through having adequate shade for patrons. New shade will be erected over one side of the facility which is currently completely bare, and over tables. As the pool provides free entry for non-swimmers and has numerous free events over summer, the new shade will ensure every single person in my suburb can escape the heat and enjoy the surrounds. Afternoons socialising with family will be more comfortable and not result in sun over exposure.
Currently, one whole grassed area and tables are without any shade, meaning there is a severe risk of sun health concerns for local families who use the facility for leisure and socialising. One large willow tree fell down last summer, removing a significant amount of shade, reducing covered areas for families, particularly with young children, to sit and watch their children. The current temporary umbrellas used for shade are hard for volunteers to set up, and fall down in the wind, being significantly unsafe. Having shade will allow my community to escape the sun, and make volunteers' role easier.

For what is essentially a large concrete box filled with water, this community pool has pulled together our neighbourhood in ways I never would have thought possible. Long live the pool!
A great asset for locals and visitors alike
We love this community run pool and would love to see more shade so it can cater for the larger numbers of people we’ve seen there in the past couple of years
This pool is a great community asset.
Much needed community pool facility and keeping the health and safety of users and volunteers is vital. Bring on the shade sails!
Great sensible project for sun safety. Shade will definitely be an issue since the wonderful willow tree will no longer provide a large shaded area.
Great initiative
