High levels of unemployment and social isolation among new residents are constantly cited in discussions. STEP will provide free advanced sewing training, employment opportunity and strong community connection for new residents and anyone who is at risk of moving to long-term unemployment. This training provides essential skills for those wishing to learn to sew and make a living from home. The project will provide an opportunity for new residents men, women to learn and meet with others, start their own business and helping people to help themselves. The training will also cover machine setup, maintenance of equipment and troubleshooting techniques.
STEP is a holistic way to treat people with dignity, respect and inclusivity. Our aim is to build a stronger community, engage new residents and provide a platform for them to connect with other residents. After successful completion of training, STEP will provide employment opportunity for designing and production of kids and ladies wear for our Lighthouse stores, which is a chain of opportunity stores, to help the poor and needy. STEP will provide free sewing machines for those who cannot afford to buy one and they can start putting their new skill on a path towards stable, sustainable independence.
