We want to create both a sensory garden and coffee cake shop staffed by people with a disability, with a view to becoming home of Food-A-Roma as they transition towards becoming an ADE. This would both provide a sustainable income program and most importantly an avenue towards employment for many disadvantaged people. They would receive support, training and friendship along their journey. Anyone with a disability will be welcomed and in turn, it becomes a public meeting space.
Having both a sensory garden that leads to a coffee shop will provide community access to the new development residential area for Colac . It will provide employment opportunities not only for people with disabilities but also all people seeking employment in either retail, hospitality or disability work. The community needs more spaces and opportunities for gathering, socialising and most importantly social interaction. Having people meet and interact are steps to improving mental health and social inclusion and social interaction is a huge part of being a community.
