This funding will allow 10,000 students in metro Melbourne (City's of Melbourne, Port Phillip and Yarra) to experience Dialogue in the Dark. This experience will teach students about diversity, empathy and understanding, and will contribute to a better Melbourne for all. DiD is an amazing, interactive experience where visitors are led by guides living with blindness or low vision in small groups through a specially constructed and totally darkened exhibition. Visitors to DiD Melbourne experience simulations of iconic locations of the City of Melbourne learning how others navigate and see the world in a different way.

This is an important experience to educate school students about difference in their fellow students and the wider community. Students will engage with someone living with blindness or vision loss and, during the course of a Dialogue in the Dark tour, get to experience first hand the "ability" rather than the "disability". The experience will build empathy, understanding and emotional intelligence.

Dialogue in the Dark also provides much needed meaning employment opportunities for Victorian's with blindness or low vision with over 20 guides and hosts employed in these educational roles. More information: www.dialogueinthedark.com.au
