Heywood Consolidated School is a dynamic small school comprising 150 students (30% Koori students) in a town of 1300 people. We would like to install outdoor fitness circuit equipment suitable for children as a means to boost usage of our generous open space. The fitness circuit equipment would be laid out around the periphery of our school grounds, within close proximity of our current 200m circular running track and will be used for PE classes; Perceptual Motor Program (enhances coordination and concentration); Occupation Therapist sessions (supporting increased muscle strength) and general playground usage. There is no other equivalent facility.
Heywood's geographic isolation means that many families are unable to participate in activities beyond the town boundary leaving many students unexposed to the wide range of sports or extra-curricular activities that exist in larger centres. The school is a hub for community activities and this project will provide unique opportunities for students to improve health outcomes through physical, active play. Circuit stations will allow self direction and teach perseverance, patience and resilience. We anticipate that local sports clubs could also have access as they currently utilise our school stadium. This new equipment complements the usage of facilities.

Already a facility well utilised outside school hours, this project will enhance the importance of the school grounds as an integral part of the Heywood community.
A fantastic way to engage kids and continue to connect with the broader community - Heywood and the smaller districts.
Great idea.
