Part of the program will incorporate cooking classes using Indigenous ingredients along with the creation of an Indigenous bush-food garden in the school. Through such workshops and the continued garden care that students will engage in, the philosophy is that Indigenous culture is celebrated everyday and our young children are inspired to learn and use more Indigenous ingredients at school and at home with their family. Pick My Project will fund six local community school programs. (photo credit: Closing The Gap)
Local school community groups will have the opportunity to learn about Indigenous Aboriginal culture, art and food through an engaging and interactive program. The mission is to see children form a greater connection to Indigenous culture, food and positive healthy lifestyle. Teaching children to grow, harvest and prepare their own fruits and vegetables is proven to have a positive impact on their food practices and choices, while sharing their new skills and learning with their family. The community needs greater opportunity to learn and celebrate Indigenous culture in their local school environment.
