Notting Hill is a re-generating community with many new younger families moving into the area. The high density residential developments offer minimal open space that can accommodate such gatherings for families & friends. My idea is to redevelop the park next to the Notting Hill Neighbourhood House to incorporate a garden bed, fruit trees, benches & a BBQ. The park would have access to the existing children’s play area.

I envisage a vegetable garden with a border of fruit trees to encourage healthy eating & a sustainable lifestyle. The House would run workshops & activities around gardening, preserving

The refurbished park would offer a new and engaging environment for community connections. It would serve as a place to eat, relax and, by integrating the space with the neighbourhood house, create opportunities for ongoing learning about growing/eating fresh food and fruits. It will be a way for parents in local apartments to introduce their children to how food is grown (and not just picked up in the supermarket !) .

The food based community activities planned by the Neighbourhood House would bring together individuals and families from a diverse range of backgrounds who otherwise might not make social connections.

May make up a little for the disappearance of back yards in this suburb, for pleasant outdoors gatherings.

The suburbs need green and open spaces as the lungs of the local community. But it also needs to provide a safe environment for families and individuals to come together. Humans need nature to function well but we are also social creatures. The Notting Hill Neighbourhood House wants to meet the needs of nearby residents and create an urban hub with community at its heart. Lots of potential for exciting activities for all ages.

This project would provide a great opportunity for local residents to meet up with family and friends for a BBQ (seasoned with fresh herbs and a squeeze of lemon or lime juice), while the kids play at the playground at the Neighbourhood House. It would also provide new opportunities for events, workshops and classes based on the edible garden elements.

Great idea! Face to face engagement rather than another FB community. Food garden? Yes, let's do it.

Its a very busy world, but here's a little spot which is perfect for people to get together and share a garden that'll provide food and friendship - and a sparkle of joy to the many multicultural residents.

I think it's a fantastic idea to encourage community in the region. It's good for people to have a reason to be together and share ideas. It helps to break down barriers that may exist when you frst meet people. it's also good to have a place to grow vegies.

That's a cool idea. Getting people to think about growing their food rather than just jumping into the supermarket.

"Life's hard when your million dollar property has no room for a lime tree and some mint for your mojitos, please fund our park being turning into a garden to expand our cocktail menu."
