This busy thoroughfare is used by commuters to tram, train and bus, families on their way to and from school, bike riders, walkers, locals accessing amenities and shops in Koornang Rd. Currently it is poorly lit, has blindspots and has been used to dump rubbish. We aim for smiling faces and sense of wellbeing as people pass through. A space you look forward to seeing the changes in season, view the art, and satisfaction of adding your own plants. To the community propagated plants we will invite local and student art, install a street library, solar lighting and safety mirrors.

The beautification, increased public safety and safe walking environment will be developed by locals with council support for the benefit of the whole community. The project offers the opportunity to participate in gardening, art works, and a focus for communication and working together. It will be a peaceful, pleasant and safe environment where you can stop and chat, add a plant, take a cutting or swap a book. For the increasing numbers of apartments it offers a garden and peaceful landscape. It gives an ongoing focus for participating, nurturing and creating. A teaching, sharing community in action.

I can't help smiling every time I walk through this laneway. It's beautiful and a wonderful visual representation of the community spirit that exists in this pocket of Melbourne we're so fortunate to live in. Thank you to those who've put their heart into this project.
