According to data from leading mental health organisations, LGBTI people experience some of the worst mental health outcomes of all demographics. Local young people have suggested a way to circumvent the burden of isolation (a main risk factor for LGBTI youth) would be to facilitate a state-wide gathering.
The aim of this project is to deliver a short camp for young rainbow people in Roses Gap, open to state-wide applications. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and non-binary kids in the Wimmera deserve an event focussing on self-love and acceptance.

Roughly 20% of young people using headspace Horsham facilities identify as LGBTI, but there are no local events outside our centre catering to these young people. Our rainbow group have suggested a way to make new friendships with those who share their gender identity/sexuality would be a rainbow camp.
This camp will exist to safeguard the mental health of those who face daily criticisms about their identity from our society by connecting them to their peers and queer youth workers. This camp is a way to show local rainbow young people that they are worthy and deserve to be celebrated.

Definitely a project worth supporting, sounds like something that is long overdue! Let's hope this camp gets the support it deserves 🌈
