Rosanna Primary School is implementing an innovative project to deliver an outdoor STEM Garden within a natural setting which will be available for students from Prep to Grades 6. This will provide a multi-functional, interactive learning space in which students, staff and community members can question, explore, observe, build and innovate in a natural environment. Whilst learning outcomes are paramount, the emphasis will be on engagement, inspiration and fun, learning through play, inquiry and everyday concepts. The dedicated space will allow students to access activities, play and learning opportunities which are not practical in an indoor classroom setting.
The STEM garden will benefit the whole school, students (P-6), staff and the broader community. The importance of building the foundations of STEM skills in early childhood is well known and this environment will assist students who have difficulty associating with abstract concepts and learning in classroom environments. The garden will enable our community to build links between families and school, and bring life, learning and movement into our school grounds beyond the school day. We hope to demystify STEM for our students and families to inspire the young and old.
