This was a fantastic project. So many people asked when they could see it again. A full house every night J.M.

The Republic of Trees is an adaptation of the Italo Calvino short story Baron in the Trees, the story of Cosimo - who at the age of 12 decides to leave home and live in the trees - and he never comes down. Created by local resident Dan Mitchell and adapted by Author Wayne Macauley (a childhood caravan park resident).
The project takes the audience through the gorgeous surrounds of Vaughan Springs in a twilight performance spread over a large section of the park. It is a unique showcase of regional talent and highlights one of Victoria's heritage gems.
The community of Vaughan Springs will be involved in a variety of ways. Key creative participants are drawn from the local region. Production, event management and front of house roles will be taken on by locals. The intention is to build capacity in the local community to host future events in the Springs and further strengthen the connection with the gorgeous park lands.
The Friends of Vaughan Springs (local community members volunteer group) have already participated in and organised planting days and annual picnic/ games days where the mini railway is showcased. This project will keep us on map.

I saw this performed at the Castlemaine State Festival some years ago at Vaughan Springs. It was incredible!
