This project will deliver improved communications generally and enhance public safety in our community by extending coverage of the Government's SMS warning system. A Telstra "Small Cell Repeater" is proposed to cover those areas currently with poor or no reception. The Small Cell provides coverage in an area of approximately 500-700 metre radius around the antenna. The equipment requires a power source and connection to the existing fibre network for connection to the servers. A utility pole at an optimum location with access to power is well suited for the installation of the antenna.

Sandy Point is a small coastal township in South Gippsland. The population is boosted at weekends and Public holidays when temporary visitors occupy the numerous holiday houses and rental properties. Over summer the population swells significantly to several thousand people. At the end of a single road in and out; nestled among coastal tea tree and surrounded by cattle grazed paddocks it is listed in the State’s top rated bushfire prone communities.

This project will improve communications in general but more specifically extend the coverage of emergency warning messages to the wider community in the event of a disaster.

Sandy Point mobile reception is variable, and needs to improve for ESS and warning services during emergencies.

Better mobile phone coverage would be a lifesaver.

Phone coverage is a life and death issue. It’s a no brainer.

I agree with others here that Sandy Point has become a high risk fire area and mobile reception is an important element in managing this risk and should be a priority.

This project is a real necessity for Sandy Point but because half the town cannot get any mobile reception, in an emergency, like a bushfire, they would not even receive an emergency message from the CFA. Sally G

In this age of high reliant on mobile phones there are "black areas"in Sandy Point that do not have mobile reception and as we have an ageing population it is important that the whole area has access to mobile reception in the case of emergency or just to keep in touch with family and friends.

While all proposed projects are important, I think the safety factor makes the upgrade of the mobile provision a priority pick!

I agree with Marie, MHomer and kevinomara about the need for better mobile coverage at Sandy Pt

Very important for safety, especially during summer months.

The current mobile coverage at Sandy Point is patchy, especially at busy times. The danger of bushfires is ever-present in the Christmas / fire danger period and in 2018 there is no excuse for mobile coverage to be unavailable.

This project is essential due to the bushfire danger over the long summer months.
