After 75 years and 271 productions, the iconic stage in the Swan Hill Theatre Group's Memorial Hall is on the brink of being declared unsafe. The performance space desperately needs to be rebuilt, for the safety of our performers (hundreds every year) and our audiences (numbering in the thousands).
We would celebrate the new stage with an original production by well-known SHTG member and playwright, Andrew Kelly. The musical, called Second Coming, explores depression and suicide through the power of Australian rock music. Local health and artistic organisations strongly support the show, and its positive impact on our local community.
Swan Hill Theatre Group have performed between 3-4 productions a year since its inception. Our theatre is the only space in our shire where locals have regular opportunities to explore their passion for performing on stage. Thousands of locals remember performing at the SHTG. We are an inclusive organisation, where people of all abilities are encouraged to achieve their best.
In and around Swan Hill, there are high instances of depression and suicide. Andrew Kelly's play, Second Coming, would connect with local audiences, hopefully inspire an important conversation, and make a real difference in the lives of many sufferers.

I attend and take my children to every performance. I have even acted in one. Such a wonderful space for the creative and artistic people in our town. I want my children to have the opportunity to be part of this theatre group when they grow up and for it to be a safe space for all.

The Swan Hill theatre stage is a place that shares history and memory of our town. To see it rebuilt and updated would be incredible. Not only will it enable future growth for the community and the continuation of the arts in our small country town but for those memories to continue to be made for future generations who take to the stage. It’s desperately time for a stage rebuild. The theatre is a massive asset to the community, and a new stage would provide Swan Hill’s theatremakers the opportunity to create bigger and better things without needing to factor in the very real possibility of the stage literally caving in...

This is a very active, talented and encouraging group which does a truly amazing job of involving locals of all ages and abilities. It has stood the test of time and delivered numerous outstanding performances of enormous variety.
