Lake Burrumbeet is just 12 minutes from Ballarat, the fastest growing regional city in Victoria. This is the opportunity to showcase a potentially world-class environmental sanctuary for the region. This project has two parts. The first is a field day sampling what the lake offers: Wadawurrung culture and stories, bird life, hiking, fishing, photography, environmental restoration, morning tea at the local hall and later a BBQ at the racecourse. The second part is the development of the plan for an environmental sanctuary at this unique lake within the City of Ballarat.
Visitors are drawn to this lake locally, regionally and internationally. The community has an invaluable asset for improved quality of life. The richness of flora and fauna can be enhanced to put Burrumbeet and Ballarat on the map as destinations for inbound tourists and those from further afield. This detailed plan for the sanctuary will address many management issues. Driven from grass-roots City-wide and rural perspectives, it will offer creative opportunities to transform governance, environment, culture, economy and regional development .

Lake Burrumbeet is a hidden gem that has been neglected for too long. This project would invigorate the area to make it attractive for the Ballarat region to use and appreciate the beautiful habitat and birdlife we are blessed with.
