Braeside Park is the largest within metropolitan Melbourne with kilometres of quiet paths for walking and cycling. One of these is a two-kilometre, oval loop which traces the track on which Harry Telford once trained race horses in the 1920's - 1930's including the legendary Phar Lap. The horses' pool survives but no other equestrian fixtures: nor the much older, original Braeside homestead and its stables. This project will present and explain this tangible link to Australia's popular sporting history: one of few reminders that South-East Melbourne actually had any history before the building sprawl of the last two decades.

Braeside Park is used by thousands of people each week. On weekends it is filled by hundred of people barbequing, picnicking, playing and otherwise using the only place in South-East Melbourne where a person is beyond the sight and sound of traffic. Along the Park's historic, restored Cypress Drive, is a large and popular Men's Shed. There are new wooden artworks portraying the place's history: wetlands, market garden, water treatment, horseracing, Parks Victoria. This Project will restore railings to the training track and construct striking, permanent features explaining the history of Braeside Park making it yet more interesting and valued.

To me this is a very worthwhile project that will allow those that visit Braeside Park to explore and learn about the life of race horse PharLap on the training track / race course where PharLap pounded his hoofs - an experience for all it'll be - to be able to walk, run or cycle around this facility.

Braeside Park is a breath of fresh air, surrounded within a dense housing and business factory area. Its natural features, walking, bicycle paths and history that are open to the public is very much an asset to those that use it. Expanding the Park with the Phar Lap legacy will no doubt open the Park further for more of the members of the public to visit and utilise its many and beautiful features.

This is a project of significant historical value to both local residents and tourists alike. Almost 100 years of history is attached to Phar Laps legacy to say nothing of the wonderful park as a whole. To find this oasis in a sea of residential and industrial development is incredibly valuable. With the refurbishment of structures that link this history to modern day life will undoubtedly put this park on the tourists "must do" list.

To Me This Will Be A Worthwhile Project To See The Pharlap Training Track At Night Time As We The Friends Of Braeside Park Do Night Walks Around The Track To See Tawny Frogmouth ,Foxes, Bats, Rabbits, Brushtail and Ringtail Possums Between April Thru To September Every Year And It Will Be Easier To See The Fence At Our Night Time Walks.
