A project to turn organic waste into wealth for the community, health for our soils, converting organic waste into biochar (dark earth). The application of biochar will reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfill and pollution. These also include carbon sequestration, nutrient and water retention, and enhanced plant and soil microflora. This community run project will include workshops and a community garden, it will also supply the arts hub cafe with produce, and biochar for the Shire Council and its landfill projects.

Key activities include the community garden and its benefits; a way of combining local cultures together, bringing communities together in one place. It's ideal for retirees and people with disabilities, the local primary schools, and it's a project that uses resources in a smart way. Discussions with the Shire Council have found a use of biochar for landfill and vegetation projects. Workshops on conversion of biochar and worm farm and composting will benefit the community and farmers to help fight the drought areas of Avoca and district.
