The program is for people socially disengaged by addiction, mental health issues or family violence issues. It will run from 8am-6pm on weekdays and also on weekends (if sufficient interest).
Initially an eclectic group of practitioners (e.g., psychologists, TCM practitioners, meditation teachers etc.) will counsel clients to overcome any barriers to social reintegration and finding personally meaningful activities.
This transitions on to staff-led local out-of-facility activities (e.g., kayaking, picnics, etc.). This builds confidence to assist clients to later transition to local external activities (e.g. community groups, groups, etc.) which they can continue without our support required.
Melbourne is plagued by drug use, mental health problems and family violence. Services often do little more than triage these issues and waiting lists for support are typically long. This leaves many people socially disengaged as they are ashamed to be identified with their affliction.
Our program seeks to assist such people with full-day support, not just 1hr/wk. This will allow more intensive support and include psychosocial rehabilitation to learn to function outside of the therapy facility. It will address barriers to reintegration and gently support people to transition from our in-house/external activities to community activities.

Desperately needed service in the area, NDIS is taking away community health which has provided a wealth of support to people with psychosocial difficulties.
Please help support this very much needed service in an area that really requires it. Mental Health and drug addiction go hand in hand and this project helps in both areas
Please give your time to Vote for this worthy project, ourselves or someone we love may need support and help one day. Unfortunately, many rehabilitation centres will not accept people if they are suffering from mental health instability, and mental health services won't help people dependant on substances.
If a person's nutrition, emotions, and thinking are balanced, they most often don't turn to substance abuse, so it makes logical sense to unite the two therapeutic models for long-term outcomes.
Overcoming barriers to social reintegration and finding personally meaningful activities will benefit so many individuals who are challenged by today's economic uncertainty. Let's keep those votes coming!
Great project to support more community and social integration after addiction or trauma.
I agree PixieG, it is akin to PTSD, it takes time to regrow your personal worth and strength, and people can feel very alone on this journey. Empathy without judgement, coupled with professional help, is a great start to feeling balanced.
What an excellent project. #1 vote from me!
This local project has my 1st vote for a much needed grant to give back to the community!
What a wonderful, caring soul :)
Education and assistance are needed. Mental health, addiction, and dissociation are problems that affect not only the person but also impacts their loved ones, and the community.
Would ultimately become a worthwhile and productive project. Let's keep voting!
I like your thinking and tenacity j222, together we hold each other up.
