Our project is the installation of a three-walled structure covering the existing asphalted outdoor playspace. The covered outdoor learning area and sports facility is located on the grounds of Epsom Primary School and will benefit the students, Out of Hours School Care, the local community, junior and senior sporting clubs.
Currently the space is used for physical education activities including netball, basketball, tennis, bike education, general phys-ed activities and other outdoor learning activities by the school students during school hours.
The covered area will be available for the wider community to use outside of school hours and weekends.
The cover allows a greater range of activities in a safer environment providing protection from the elements, and extending the usable hours for this space. Outdoor learning can assist students to be more engaged, learning more relevant and nuture creativity and imagination.
Wet weather days and event cancellations will no longer be a problem for our school children and our local community. The cover will protect the users of the space during the daylight hours from our ever growing harsh UV rays and will enable more valuable childhood exercise especially in winter when the days are rainy, cold and short.
