Primary SySTEM Connect will ensure that young students, with inquisitiveness about STEM, are made aware of possible career opportunities and have a greater understanding of STEM subjects they may elect in coming years.
Participants from Wodonga primary schools will participate in hands-on STEM workshops (facilitated by Eco Inquire) as well as visit industry partners including North-East Water, Halve Waste and the Wodonga Regional STEM Centre.
Educators will have opportunity to introduce students to diverse STEM role-models within the Wodonga community whom their students will be able to relate to by social-economic-status, location and gender.
The program aims to provide experiences for students and teachers through collaborative industry interaction.
Expected community benefits include:
- A boost in students involvement and interest in STEM though authentic experiences
- Increased uptake of STEM subjects at secondary/tertiary institutions
- Increased student awareness of STEM employment pathways
Expected long-term benefits include:
- Increased engagement of young people ready to move from school into further STEM education, apprenticeships, internships, and scholarships.
- Youth are informed of STEM based employment options available in Wodonga
- Improved competitiveness within Wodonga, through an increased pool of future skilled employees.
