Primary School & Community Outdoor Space

To create an outdoor environment that is differentiated for the needs of our culturally diverse community- extending the learning of our inside environment. All current user groups of the school will use this outdoor area such as our playgroup, neighbourhood house outreach programs for adults, out of hours hirers (eg-local sporting clubs & church groups), English language classes run by volunteer staff, Victoria’s first Coded Dojo, OSHC, Girl Guides Victoria. A future plan is to incorportate a mens’ shed, community garden & café. Plan will also improve access for those with low mobility & extend school kitchen

WPPS- Greater Dandenong city- services some of most disadvantaged in Australia (poverty, poor mental health & high refugee numbers impacting on social/emotional & physical health of community). WPPS sees itself as an active agent in promoting better outcomes for community such as providing inclusive outdoor spaces which better meet community needs, equitable access & increase connections with community members & with nature. WPPS is very progressive/innovative in its teaching pedagogy, “raison detre" & indoor environments. WPPS has developed a plan, in consultation with community, to extend this to our outdoor environment which has little value for school & community use
