Cyberbullying is the biggest risk that kids in regional Victoria face online. We want to develop and roll out a programme specifically tailored to Victorian kids in regional areas, who often face physical and social isolation due to the geography of our state. The focus will be on building resilience against bullies, and improving assertiveness and self confidence. A focus will be specifically to develop skills for Indigenous youth, children with a disability, and other marginalised groups. The programme will be developed in regional Victoria, and developed online, free of charge.
Many parents in regional Victoria are concerned about cyberbullying. Children are now required to use laptops, social media and email from a very young age. This can allow them to become targets for vicious online bullies from an early age, often resulting in mental health issues and, regrettably, many suicides in our regions. We want to build a free programme that all kids in regional Victoria can access, and use in conjunction with their parents, to build resilience, and let them understand how to use technology safely and responsibly.
