30 local artists will be commissioned to create an engaging and brightly coloured 'Positive Poster' relating in some way to positive messages around female empowerment, racial, cultural, religious, gender and sexual diversity and equality. An unveiling event and exhibition will be held for the community to view the posters and highlight their significance. The posters will remain displayed in the Clubhouse as a way to promote discussion, inclusivity, diversity, acceptance and respect, and as a constant reminder of the values and ethics Clubhouse would like to promote to the young people who engage with the youth centre.
The Fitzroy Learning Network's Clubhouse is a safe and informal learning space for young people from the surrounding housing estates. In a typical year, hundreds of young people engage with the clubhouse in some capacity whether through the music or film programs, the sewing program, using the computers, or generally hanging out. Currently, there is an untapped opportunity to educate, support and empower everyone who engages with the space with posters! Generic educational posters are often irrelevant and outdated in both aesthetic and messaging so we need local artists who will communicate positive, empowering messages to the Clubhouse demographic.
