The Performing Arts Space upgrade will be an inspiring example of social architecture designed to bring the community together and encourage creative pursuits not only for students from Maffra Secondary College but local primary schools and community groups too. The space will be used primarily for rehearsals, workshops, classes and performances of drama, theatre, film and music involving secondary students at Maffra Secondary College. The space will be multi - functional and available to the wider community to use for events and performances, like art exhibitions, functions, community theatre performances and music events. Built in 1970, an upgrade is needed.

Immersion in learning, digital skills, critical thinking, creativity and presentation skills have become cornerstones of the new work order- expectations placed on young people to demonstrate skills in these areas is increasingly necessary as workplaces shift. An updated Performing Arts Space for Maffra Secondary College would help diminish the barriers that distance from the city, lack of public transport, limited local resources and unemployment have mounted against them. A Performing Arts Space would provide exposure to new ways of fostering these skills, making accessible an environment that motivates and inspires young people, connects them to the community and brings pride.

This space will acknowledge the development of the the gifts and talents of students in so many ways. The education department must knows the importance of how the arts assist with the development of skills needed in the workforce- teamwork, communication skills, personal confidence, positive self esteem, creativity, and the list continues. Having a suitable space to use also confirms respect for the teaching staff and students working in this area. The whole community would benefit from the positive run ons that come from having a wonderful space to work and perform in

What a fantastic idea. The arts are such an important part of education and life. We spend a lot of time viewing all sorts of art forms, especially performing arts. Whether it be film, youtube, art, theater or music, we consume it all. So we need to support and promote arts at all levels.

Maffra Secondary College have a proud musical and arts program consistently run over 25 plus years. As a parent of children well into their 30's, I have been to many presentations in that space. It is definitely in need of an upgrade

As a former student including many years as a member of the 'tech crew', now the parent of an arts orientated yr 7 student and being a professional theatre technician there is nothing I would love to see more than the black box upgraded. It is important to the school, the students, former students and the theatre social fabric of the entire area. Many have laughed and cried in that space. I learnt my craft in that space and would love to see many more kids get out of the space what I did.

As a student that is in this space almost daily, it would be a relief to see it improved. It is heartbreaking, seeing a space that so much creativity is built in, look so- bad. Performing in a Performing Arts Space that isn't a brilliant as we want it to be, pulls our spirit down a little.
I would very much love if our space was upgraded.

Having been the Performing Arts Teacher at this school, I can definitely vouch for this facility needed a major upgrade. With such a unique space that is not available at any other school in the region Maffra Secondary deserve the opportunity to make their facility an iconic part of what they uniquely offer to their students.

With so many pressures on students to fit in, it is important to make sure that not only sports are considerate the norm. Everyone is not into sports and all students should be given the chance to shine.
A space like this will allow those students that have an interest in the arts to grow and enhance their talents.

A very important project

This space is important to the many young thespians trying to find their feet in the theater. It’s where my daughter caught her acting bug.

A very worthwhile project.

There's a real creative buzz brewing within Maffra and areas close by (Briagolong, Stratford etc.).
A project like this has significant potential; it would be a developmental step towards supporting the exist creative community, but more importantly, allow it to grow and expand.
This would act as a constructive central creative space, encouraging cross generational collaboration. Places like this is where projects begin and often branch out, providing for and connecting with a broader community.

Maffra services such a wide and vibrant catchment, where the community arts are celebrated and bring our communities together. This project would act as a great hub to enhance and grow the the talents of our many budding young performers and artists.
