The Otways is steeped in our pioneering heritage. “Much of this area relied upon the Forrest railway line linking coast and inland through locomotives. There once stood many stations including the Pennyroyal station (Artlets Corner). This timber tramway is but a relic of a bygone age when steam power and rails were king of the Otways forest." (Sawdust and Steam, p192,1975).
The Pennyroyal Hall Commitee of Management, Colac Otway Region Ratepayers Association (CORRA) and 'Friends of Pennyroyal' are working with locals & Colac Otway Shire to have the Master Plan and works commenced reigniting community nights and ceremonies once again
For Locals:
-Hall will be hired for community functions- birthdays, weddings...
- Euchre & carpet bowls
- Pennyroyal Tennis Club: amenities for afternoon tea and toilets.
For Hinterland Eco-Tourism:
-We are supported by Murroon Landcare and Pennyroyal Hub, keen to use the hall's intimate space for meetings and partnering us to create walking/hiking/orienteering amenities, based at 'The Hall.' We are working with Colac Otway Shire and Surf Coast Shire creating linking tracks from Forrest-Benwerrin-Lorne.
-We are supported by historical societies to create a historical self-drive taking in significant sites in the area including pioneering, aboriginal, farming & industrial history.

A most beautiful hall with a fabulous sprung floor. May future generations dance up a storm. It must be saved!!
Having enjoyed numerous functions in the Pennyroyal Hall when I was the head teacher of the Pennyroyal school( now closed) I would love to see this lovely old hall restored and being used for public functions again

A little hall steeped in history...and hopefully steeped in future. Our district needs community space because Community is what makes small districts stay alive and vibrant. Get behind this project? You bet I will!

This hall was a major part of my childhood growing up, not to mention numerous others. A beautiful old building with such historical value and importance to the community of Deans Marsh and Pennyroyal Valley needs to be preserved for future generations if we are to appreciate and remember our historic roots in the area.
