Our project gives students the opportunity to proudly design, construct and maintain an outdoor classroom. This project aims to invigorate learning and deepen educational, social and environmental connections.

The garden will be landscaped with indigenous native plants after respectful consultation with local Elders for a bush tucker garden and outdoor art. Created from natural materials sourced locally, young people and wider community groups can gather for learning, socialising, relaxation and meditation.

To maximise the area's use school staff will undergo outdoor training to compliment traditional indoor learning. This space will provide habitat for local wildlife including a beneficial bug hotel

Student engagement in school is priority for our community. Inviting students to build learning spaces creates deep empowerment and connection, broadening receptivity to education.

Learning in nature injects purpose and vitality to curriculum subjects strengthening students’ physical, social and emotional health. Participants gain practical outdoor project skills improving employment prospects.

These experiences build community connection by encouraging students to work with elders on intergenerational projects, learning about indigenous heritage, biodiversity, sustainability and symbiotic relationships.

The natural environment is enhanced with sustainable landscaping supporting biodiversity to flourish. Inviting the wider community to use the space builds social capital and civic connection.

I would love to see an outdoor classroom at Frankston Heights Primary School. It would be the perfect setting for children to appreciate their natural surroundings, learn of the traditional custodians and to educate for a sustainable future.
